Reopen the Alfa Romeo Museum

Reopen the Historical Museum of Alfa Romeo in Arese and thousands of fans are already excited. FIAT was convinced, even under pressure from Lombardy Region and its Governor Roberto Maroni.

The protection of the Ministry of Culture and the Museum closure

On January 31th 2011, the protection was confirmed by the Ministry of Culture and the Historical Museum and his collection – over 250 stunning cars – were saved.
On February 7th 2011, the Management of Fiat Group Automobiles decided to close the Historical Museum and the access to the archive. The official reason was the maintenance of the Museum.

The commitment of Senator Cesarino Monti

In the Senate, on February 1st 2011, was presented a query, signed Garavaglia-Monti, for the definition of the procedure relating to the formalization of the legal protection of the buildings of Alfa Romeo area and materials stored.

FIAT reactions

On March 18th 2011, Fiat and the City of Turin officially opened the new Automobile Museum of Torino.
Many media reported this episode: "Fiat has opened an automobile museum in Turin, while silently they has closed the Alfa Romeo Historical Museum, the 3 rd most important museum in the world."
In the meanwhile, the lawyers of the Fiat Group on March 25th 2011 presented to the Council of state two separate appeals against the constraint placed by the Ministry on the cars of the Collective heritage and the Museum.
What is surprising are the tones that Fiat Group lawyers have used, and their justifications horrify for any fan of automotive history: "As for the museum collection of Alfa Romeo, most cars are of dubious value collectible". Furthermore, it is totally unjustified and unlawful, setting the constraint on the cars as unique models, such as the two Alfetta 159 F1 world champions, as they are two identical vehicles and is illogical to attribute the uniqueness.

The risks

The risk is that the extraordinary archive of the Historic Museum will be disperse. Combined, the museum's collection of 130 cars is worth between 50 and 60 million euros. Alfa Romeo would hardly be the first automaker to sell off parts of its collection to finance operations; less than two years ago, General Motors sent many models from its heritage collection to a Barrett-Jackson auction in Arizona to thin its ranks.

The idea of a museum in Monza

Other brands push strongly their own history, and they created new art museums, such as Porsche, Mercedes, Audi and BMW.
In view of Expo, it will be interesting the planning of a permanent museum at Autodromo Nazionale Monza to show a wide collection of racing cars and first of all Alfa 159.

Yeuh! Het is feest! Het museum is/gaat weer open!

Sja, mogelijk in 2015 pas, als de Expo daar in de omgeving plaats vind....Weer typisch Italiaans staaltje natuurlijk.
